About these numbers
- Sources: Southwest Florida Water Management District (48,487 records); St. Johns River Water Management District (24,540 records); Suwannee River Water Management District (34 records). Records were fetched October 25, 2026.
- What’s counted: wells with a reported depth whose use is household, irrigation, public supply or agricultural. Monitoring wells, injection wells, plugged wells and permits that were never drilled are left out. Methodology.
- Dates: SWFWMD permits issued 1970–2026. The SJRWMD and SRWMD layers carry no date.
- Approximate locations: 23,233 of 73,061 records (32%) share their exact map point with at least four other records, so they’re probably placed at a section, subdivision or parcel-group center rather than at the well. That matters for “nearest well” distances, less for area figures like these.
- Not a guarantee: a record shows how deep one well was permitted or built. It doesn’t predict yield, water quality or what your well will need.

- Will a new well at my property in Marion County be this deep?
- Not necessarily. These are depths other wells were permitted or built to. Depth depends on the aquifer, water quality, use and local rules. A Florida-licensed water well contractor and your water management district can tell you what a new well at your property needs.
